5,000 Children March to the Academy of Music

Motion Picture Herald, September  25, 1948:
“The first New York City ‘Salute to Youth’ ceremony started with a parade
of 5,000 children to the Skouras Academy of Music, where a rally was held in tribute to the New York Herald-Tribune’s ‘Fresh Air Fund‘.

“A majority of those who marched were children who had participated in this free summer holiday.”

micky_pe“Grand Marshal of the parade to the theatre was Lois Butler, ‘Mickey‘ herself, in person, who took charge of the singing, which was both good and loud.

“The kids were delighted with ‘Mickey’ , who came out to meet and march with them in the true spirit of “Youth Month’.”
